Seeing without looking – x-ray comes to Masiki Hospital

Earlier this year the clinical team in Butembo and church leaders were delighted to receive the Xair, a state-of-the art digital X-ray machine.  Medaid helped us purchase if from Fujifilm UK at an incredible price, with funds provide by ECHO and your contributions.

Along with the xray machine,  our friends in Medaid very generously provided 4 oxygen concentrators, a blood pressure machine and pulse oximeter, medical textbooks and a tool kit, along with 2 free online courses for two of the team in Butembo to train as biomedical technicians to maintain the equipment. We are so grateful for Medaid’s dynamic partnership.

None of the hospitals we support in DRC have had xray before, but now in Masiki Hospital the staff with no prior radiography experience have been able to take these stunning images.  Having x-ray will greatly enhance the team’s ability to diagnose tricky clinical cases and to support orthopaedic sugery. This is part of a larger project to strengthen diagnostics and quality of care.

Great news from our last appeal – after one of the orphanage house was burned down in a fire, we are quickly mobilising funds to rebuild it. With your generosity we were able to send $5120 to get the rebuilding started, and we will soon be transferring another $1,200 from St Andrew’s Church, Oxford. CMS Ireland are also raising funds so we hope together to make it up the to the $15,000 needed to complete the rebuild.
