Our Christmas appeal is supporting the St Matthieu Hospital in Bukavu. We plan to build a post-operative ward, and if we raise sufficient funds, to equip the second operating theatre and to build a waste zone to process contaminated medical waste for the hospital. If we get even more funds we want to equip the operating theatre at Masiki in Butembo.
Semiliki has supported St Matthieu hospital with a new Operating Theatre block, and has supported the maternity, and the original consultation block. Work at St Matthieu has expanded quickly, as it reaches out the urban poor in the heart of this city of well over a million people. With the increase in patients, the team often find themselves operating on two patients at the same time, highlighting the need to quickly equip the second operating theatre that was built as part of the new operating block supported by Semiliki.
